Dearborn's water comes from two major sources: the Ohio River and the Whitewater River Basin. The Whitewater River Basin, which drains through northern Dearborn County into the Ohio River, contains Brookville Lake, Indiana's second deepest and third largest manmade reservoir.

The majority of county residents in the unincorporated areas use on-site septic systems to treat and dispose of sanitary waste.
Solid Waste Disposal
Dearborn County's solid waste disposal is handled by the Rumpke Sanitary Landfill in Cincinnati, Ohio. Rumpke provides curbside pickup and landfill services with 15-18 years capacity left.
Dearborn County also has nine staffed recycling drop-off centers for its residents. The centers accept newspapers, magazines, phone books, cardboard, glass, cans and plastic.
Hazardous Waste
There are three Heritage Environmental hazardous waste disposal sites within 155 miles of Dearborn County. The three sites are located in the Indiana cities of Roachdale and Indianapolis, and in Louisville, Kentucky.
