Cities of Dearborn County: Lawrenceburg
Lawrenceburg, Indiana, is the county seat and the most populous city in Dearborn County with a population of 4,738. Founded in 1801 by Samuel C. Vance, the city was named in honor of the founder's wife, whose maiden name was Lawrence.
Located on the banks of the Ohio River, just 27 miles away from downtown Cincinnati, Lawrenceburg boasts an eclectic mix of the past and present. Historic buildings line downtown Walnut Street, which is within walking distance of the Argosy Casino and Hotel.

Lawrenceburg has a number of recreational and cultural facilities that provide year-round entertainment for county residents. The Lawrenceburg Speedway provides summer racing excitement while Perfect North Slopes draws skiers from across the tri-state in winter.

Public Libraries

Public libraries in Dearborn County are provided by the Lawrenceburg Public Library District (www.lpld.lib.in.us) and the Aurora Public Library District (www.eAPLD.net). 

Lawrenceburg PLD has libraries in Lawrenceburg and near Bright; Aurora PLD has libraries in Aurora and Dillsboro.  Both operations are part of the statewide network that includes INSPIRE, the Indiana virtual library.  The resources available at both local libraries include:

Festivals and Events
In addition to a variety of recreational facilities, Lawrenceburg is also host to a number of local festivals and events each year. The Tri-State Antique Market at the Lawrenceburg Fairgrounds draws over 20,000 visitors every season. This market was named one of 11 "Must-Attend Flea Markets" by Midwest Living (March/April 2004) and features over 250 dealers each month.

Historic Buildings
Dearborn County is home to many buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Three of these buildings can be found in Lawrenceburg:

  • The Jesse Hunt House (1818).
  • The Dearborn County Courthouse (1871).
