Dearborn County Residents
Encouraged to ‘Buy Dearborn’
Lawrenceburg, Ind., May 14, 2009 -- Residents of Dearborn County in Southeast Indiana are being urged to “Buy Dearborn.”
As tough economic times pose challenges for consumers, businesses and the community, the Dearborn County Chamber of Chamber has launched a campaign to spread the word about the value of making purchases close to home.
The Chamber is using newspaper, radio and television advertising as well as a special web site www.BuyDearborn.com to tell local residents why it makes good sense to buy products and services from local merchants and suppliers they know and can trust.
“The word commerce is in our name,” said Chamber President Michael Rozow. “I can’t think of a more appropriate role for the Chamber to play than connecting buyers and sellers in our community at this particular time. This isn’t about charity … it’s about the whole value proposition … buying from a neighbor you can trust who offers convenience, good service and price … someone who is providing jobs to local residents, contributing to the local tax base, and stimulating the local economy. When that happens, everyone wins.
“This is grass roots economic development. Most people like to think of economic development as attracting new companies, but the fact is most growth comes from existing companies growing their businesses. In the current climate, a lot of businesses are working hard just to maintain previous sales levels. We’re hopeful a campaign like this can contribute to that.”
Rozow also noted that local shops and businesses will go the extra mile for their neighbors because they know it’s a great opportunity to develop a repeat customer, and they also know the resulting word-of- mouth advertising is best advertising they can buy. He stressed the convenience factor, too, adding that shopping close to home means no long drives to outlet malls and no internet mixups to worry about.
The Chamber’s web site links visitors to profile pages with information about businesses and their products and services. A special section of the web site features “hot deals.” Businesses are being urged to promote the “Buy Dearborn” theme in their own signage and advertising.
