Quality of Life: Emergency Services
Emergency Management Agency
Dearborn County's Emergency Management Agency prepares for hazards and coordinates relief efforts in the county. It also serves as a resource for the county's emergency departments. Preparation for hazards incorporates four areas: Response, Recovery, Planning, and Mitigation between local and state governments.
The agency is part of the Indiana State Emergency Management Agency and receives funding from the Department of Homeland Security. In 2003, the county received $35, 459 in population based grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Domestic Preparedness.
Emergency Medical Services
There are nine EMS districts in Dearborn County, each with their own emergency medical service care provider. The county also has life squads with locations in Greendale, Lawrenceburg, Aurora, Dillsboro, Moores Hill, Manchester, Bright, and St. Leon. All of the life squads but Lawrenceburg, which has a paid full-time team, rely on volunteers.
  • All life squad volunteers are certified Emergency Medical Technicians, in accordance with state laws and regulations.
  • All life squads operate at least two ambulances. Manchester and St. Leon are the only exceptions.
Dearborn County is a short distance away from some of the finest trauma centers in the region. Both the University Hospital and Children's Hospital both have Level One trauma centers. A level one designation is the highest designation a hospital can receive. These two trauma centers are the only Level One trauma centers in Hamilton County. Air medical helicopter transport service is also available at the University Hospital.
Emergency Fire Service
Dearborn County is divided into 14 fire districts and served by 14 fire departments. The Fire departments of Aurora, Greendale, Lawrenceburg, Dillsboro, St. Leon, and Moores Hill serve their respective cities as well as portions of Dearborn County's unincorporated areas. Other outlying unincorporated areas and the remaining portions of the county receive fire coverage from various departments, both in-county and out-of-county.

Dearborn County has eight law enforcement stations located throughout the county. Between these eight locations, there are over 110 full-time law enforcement officers and staff serving the county.
